Twenty-seven years after the tragic passing of Princess Diana, never-before-seen photos from the moments leading up to the fatal crash in Paris have been made public. These images were released in connection with the ongoing inquest at the Supreme Court of London, which seeks to clarify the circumstances surrounding her death.
The British press published a series of photographs capturing Diana’s final minutes inside the Mercedes-Benz before the crash at the Pont de l’Alma tunnel on the night of August 31, 1997.
One of the images shows French driver Henri Paul in the front seat, alongside bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, while Diana sits in the back, glancing over her shoulder—seemingly checking if they had managed to escape the pursuing photographers.
These photos were presented to the 11 jurors inside Courtroom 73 of the British Supreme Court as part of the investigation into the deaths of Princess Diana and her partner, Egyptian businessman Dodi Al Fayed.
The images were displayed while criminal inquest judge Lord Scott Baker outlined the trial’s objectives, emphasizing their importance as key evidence that the jury will examine over the course of the six-month-long proceedings.
Additional images depict the aftermath of the crash from various angles, showing the mangled Mercedes and the blood-stained 13th pillar of the Pont de l’Alma tunnel.
According to Baker, “There are members of the public who believe something sinister was behind the collision.” He added that one of the trial’s purposes is to investigate the case thoroughly to either dispel or substantiate such suspicions.
Amid ongoing speculation, Baker addressed a long-standing rumour: the claim that Princess Diana was pregnant at the time of her death. He stated that no scientific evidence supports this theory but confirmed that the jury would be given access to intimate details of her personal life.
Although there is no proof that Diana was expecting when she passed away, Baker did reveal that evidence confirms she was taking contraceptive pills.
During the hearings, a photograph of Diana in a swimsuit, taken in July 1997, was shown. In the image, her slightly swollen stomach was visible—something that has fueled theories about a possible pregnancy, though not necessarily with Dodi Al Fayed’s child.
As the inquest continues, these revelations shed new light on one of the most controversial tragedies in modern history.
